Could I Do That?
Last year's bird's nest
hangs from one eye
a busted bundle of automatic responses
someone gave me
though I don't remember when
or if I ever acknowledged the gift
The conditioner
has been conditioning me for so long
I am no longer curious as to its
real identity
and just accept these neural highways
established in my head
will run toll free
One day I may take a Kleenex
and wipe my brain
making sure to incinerate
all thoughts
I should not have let
become a permanent part
of my thinking
Could I do that?

Hope this doesn't ruffle your feathers, but I've only just realised that way back at the end of last year I never responded to your comment for this poem, Priya. How could I have done such a thing. Now I understand why you've been so distant for the last months! But I understand if saying thank you now doesn't fix it. It's all my fault I know. My head hangs in deep, deep shame.
