concrete city
concrete city
concrete purgatory
concrete anguish
your down f a

your death
every street i ramble into i get lost in
every floor the elevator stops on i get lost on
the exit sign burns red and the ivory is yellowed
the staircase swallows loudly
then drones
on
where the diagram says you’re here
i get lost there too
im lost in the whir of confusion inside my head
and car noises
and predator junctions
and sunken feelings not numbed dulled or erased by alcohol
im lost in cathedral crowds
in responsorial psalms
and palm sunday palms
and confession booth hail marys
the underpass echoes with shouts of children lost inside themselves
i choke and trip on something dead on the spot i first lost myself in
before i proceeded to lose myself a million more times in every street
and every alley
and every girl
and every lamp post that cries in the rain
the city howls feeling my pain
i look up into the sky in the rain
and drown
inside
myself.
