Trial By Perjury

And as the courts again do time
the legal process grinds
as miles and miles of piles of files
are burnt to fuel the crime

“I rest my case” the barrister said
“against the wall of Truth”
but holes were found, the case had drowned
the judge sat all aloof

the cautious prisoner tiptoed free
the people feared a whim
went out and killed, third victim stilled
the barrister looked at him

whenever Truth’s put in the dock
and argued for the toss
the heads and tails of sirens’ wails
will have it on the rocks

and as they celebrate the case
distributing the fees
the Truth is lost to human cost
to oil the legal-ease.
