Blood and Water
We are born
from amber nightfall.
How vibration ripples
under formations
of gelatinous bone;
our multifaceted nature
fluctuating between release
and holding on.
We're mud bugs of fear
burrowing from experience
into sediment
withstanding evolution
before emerging
a tadpole of Belief;
our globular metamorphosing
from child to adult begins
to accept the wet moisture
of our physical form.
There is a promise
residing in the atmosphere
of humans, our integration --
the bedding of blood
in our veins with water.
That reminder, like a Rainbow
Connection, is everywhere:
How clear our image
in times of Trust;
how extensively muddy
through resistance.

I am reminded of Kermit the Frog sitting on that log playing his banjo before he leaves the swamp for Hollywood.

I wish I could write poetry like this - it's like a symphony - leading to a mixture of emotions, like poetically driven emotions in 3D :-)
We're mud bugs of fear
burrowing from experience
into sediment
withstanding evolution
before emerging
just perfect :-)

I think too often we forget to stop by the puddles on the roadside to catch tadpoles... there's still clarity in muddy water when depths of darkness is broken and brought to the light.
a tadpole of belief... wow! :)
Cool poem, Ahavati.

Thank you, Case. Much appreciated.
I do miss catching tadpoles myself.

I love where you say, We're mud bugs of fear in particular. Isn't that the truth. We press upon and hoard our sufferings, forming a perfect pearl of pain and hold it closer to bosom than our dearest companions. We emerge again and again from the primordial to soar. Such a curious existence, this. Beautiful contemplative work Ahavati.

Your servant, mi'lady. I am recording The Absence of Magic. My new software is great. I can pause, delete stumbles and begin again from that point. About a third of the way through and my vocal chords are hot. Taking a short break. Hope you will enjoy.

I think I've compared your poems to Hart Crane's before, but if not, I'm doing it now. While I don't know what a lot of this poem literally means, exactly - beyond a general theme of the resilience of the human spirit - I don't need to because the point ultimately is the language and the kaleidoscopic, mesmeric images it creates. I'm not sure you need the opening line from St. Paul as it doesn't really add anything so far as I can see, and "we are born of amber nightfall" is a very strong opening that would be even stronger on its own, but that's my only quibble.

You HAVE indeed. And it was appreciated! "I'm not sure you need the opening line from St. Paul as it doesn't really add anything so far as I can see, and "we are born of amber nightfall" is a very strong opening that would be even stronger on its own, but that's my only quibble." I also perciate very much your quibble, kind Sir.
St. Paul's words were, " For now we see [ vs are born ] through a glass, darkly;" ( I Corinthians 13:12 ). I also pulled up Patton's poem to ensure it wasn't a direct line. But now that you've pointed it out, I getcha and will seriously consider the quibble. :D

Re. Blood and Water
digs deep..the genesis n evolution amidst transforms with the 'religion' of trust ..your language takes me through lot of complexities in imagery, if i need to put in that much in at least a bit of proximity to your woven wisdom.. Complexities..so is life, so are the Origins..yet the uniting clarities you talk about in the wetness n sediments , i feel your depths of narration when you say it with mudbugs n fear..the blood and water..i feel both some chill shivers of fear n the warmth of trust,..and, .i just feel short of words, seem to get just a little of the holistic origin to way of existence you pack in so short n some intense life n purpose felt..some strong cues sometimes take to the bleak questioning, some erupting slap ..of why do we live or write or do what we do..we rather know its the staggering 'how' we do...and that fearly realizing of mostly ashamedness!...your this write takes me to that point ..n the answer shines in faith therein for one who accepts n transforms, who is no "I" who is no "one" .
Techniques n rigors of poetry know not to comment n feedback, but what unites us beyond anything is the felt in vigour, the bonds, the love, the art. xx

Uma, Ohmy
The 'religion' of Trust.
Bloody exactly!
As that of a child seeking that rainbow connection; or as an adult seeking understanding.
chill shivers of fear n the warmth of trust,
eeeeeeeyeppers. You hit that spot on. Only the sunrise of Trust can germinate Life once it's given birth. I'm glad it took you there, Uma.
I always appreciate your in depth feedback from the Spirit of your heart and truth. It resonates deeply within me and awakens an awareness unknown to me. It grows me in ways I wasn't expecting. Love and gratitude always.

Impressive last stanza to such a profound piece!
No idea how you came up with tadpoles, let alone "a tadpole of Belief" but it's brilliant!
Really enjoyed this one, Ahavati

oh myyyyyy
vati you are once again serving up the primordial soup of our molecules (so glad i bought along a spoon).
there is such depth & scope of emotion/experience herein, the inescapable cycle of growth that mayhap has less to do with the physical but spurs the metaphysical to waking, to purpose.
reading you is a timeless experience

I've read through this a few times, and I think I'll need to read through it at least a few more to fully absorb it. Your writing is compelling, which makes me want to return to it. I was most attracted, at first, to the idea that we fluctuate between release and holding on. That pull is felt through our fears, beliefs, our trust, and the challenge to what we think or want to be true. There are some growing pains in this one, I think.
