The Lost Poets series: Dudley Randall
The Profile on the Pillow
After our fierce loving
in the brief time we had
to be together
You lay in the half light
exhausted, rich, with your
face turned sideways
on the pillow, and I traced
the exquisite line of your profile,
dark against the white, delicate
and lovely as a child's.
Perhaps you will cease to love
me, or we may be consumed
in the holocaust, but I keep,
against the ice and the fire,
the memory of your profile
on the pillow.
(Me)
Yes...her Gone...
Long past the winds
that massage the sea
Lost, in a forest of spindlin'
wonders, reachin' for defied heights
That torrid affair of heart, heat
wanton ecstasy...bound to
breasts' nurtured warmth.
Gone her...went
a recurring aura, sought
though silently, dissipated
into the fabric of broken
whispers of never, endings...
After our fierce loving
in the brief time we had
to be together
You lay in the half light
exhausted, rich, with your
face turned sideways
on the pillow, and I traced
the exquisite line of your profile,
dark against the white, delicate

Such a beautifully bittersweet piece. All I can say is keep an ear out for the wind, you never know when it may blow her back again. Beautifully written

Such an intense write... some people can make more impact in a short amount of time, than others who you spend years with. I felt the longing in this one... I have this habit of dwelling in the past as well...
Beautiful phrasing and I love the painting!

This is a beautiful piece (and I think this is one of your best). I can definitely feel the bittersweet feeling. And it is so true that we don't always know what we have until it's gone. I love the painting with it.

Bittersweet indeed; beautifully melancholy. Like the knowing that beautiful things one day end.

That was silencing, PoetikOne. I can hear the pencil on the sketch pad. Some people come into our lives and leave us with beautiful art and words that becomes both fire and ice in our memory.
I enjoyed how it changed voices as well.
