The Thin Line of Passion and Fury

I have immense problems with this subject matter. The title I assume was inspired by "kiss with a fist" by florence and the machine. In the chorus they sing - "A kiss with a fist, is better than none." I hasten to disagree. The video has an emasculated male in it being slapped and punched but no assault in retaliation how's that for PC marital violence. Having said all that it is a subject that needs to be written about and you do it justice.

Thanks for your feedback David.  I did not see the video but listened to the song several times.  I want to be clear that what I wrote was not my impressions on domestic violence but my impressions from the song.  I was in a relationship when I was very young that ended in violence and I immediately left.  Not everyone feels they are able to do that and are often isolated and feel alone. I have much empathy for those who feel trapped in any type of abusive relationship. Also, I do not personally know what it is like to be in a relationship fuelled by anger and love at the same time but I have been witness to it.  I find it ugly but I get how passions burn intensely and a very thin line develops between love and hate. That is what I heard in the lyrics and tried to convey. I hope that makes sense.  Thank you again David and I agree, It is a subject for discussion.  Always.   Bless, Mel

Yes - you make perfect sense - my comments were based around my discomfort. I have written about domestic violence but I find it difficult. When I first joined DU I had the same kind of discomfort around S&M poetry - In some ways I have lived a sheltered life, maybe that's the problem. I am sure you can understand my rather weak position :-)
