[ NaPo 2017 ] [ WWW ] Luck Of The Draw
The Desperado rarely misses
always gets the girl at story's end;
as credits roll, there will be kisses
but the life of a gunfighter
takes its toll
---always a lawman gunning for him
when he only wants to settle down
with a single good hearted woman
and be welcome in any town---
call at least one soul "friend"
As luck wouldn't have it
loading empty chambers with rounds
spinning barrels in roulette wheel fashion
now wasn't the time for the happy ending
the Lord in his infinite wisdom
determined he was never worthy of

The poem makes me wonder about the influence we have on "fate" - funnily enough the subject of my offering for today on NaPoWriMo which I'll post shortly after some more fiddling.
I like the ending - keeping it open - and an alternative narrative to the "happily ever after" - despite having crossed all the hurdles. But maybe there's yet another chapter.

Very few men can forgive and let live as God can. There's always a bounty that seems to increase, especially when we turn the other cheek.
