Image for the poem Their Various Gods

Their Various Gods

He won't have her mewling
Whines picked up by his pointed ears
Her groveling a pure disgrace
He prefers her to submit with dignity
A quiet trust in his godhead
His ability to catch the flying barbs

She now simply lives to serve
Acquiescence dropping to her knees
Satisfaction with her lips and tongue
She swallows his ambrosia and thrives

He ululates in his foreign tongue
Calling on their various gods
Each delighted to see such sport
They dispense their manna, dripping pearls
And all is well tonight.
