Our Pets
What is it about everyone's pets,
Whether dog named Nipper or cat, Josette,
That touches our hearts and uplifts our soul,
Every time we take them out for a stroll?
They are only animals some might say,
That may be true, but it’s still a cliché,
To lump pets in the league with hyenas,
Or some big cat by the name of Sheena.
Our pets become an extension of us,
Why they even pout and sometimes they cuss,
Loving and loyal dogs and even cats,
They have our hearts although they act like brats.
What is it about pets I ask once more,
That even if they're naughty we adore,
When I hear "Old Shep" I cannot deny,
This seventy-eight-year-old man still cries.
