[ NaPo 2017 ] [ SciFi & Fantasy ] Gray

Through his exploratory journeys into
the outer chambers of the Sphere
their mother ship crash landed upon
Gray learned its metallic composition
shielded thoughts from his race's
state of perpetual broadcast

For the first time in his existence
he was Free! from the telepathic bond
tethering them together in a hive mind;
their obliviousness of his mental existence
brought him so much joy

He didn't want to leave

enjoying one sided conversations
with the natives lying about---
lifeless robots permanently disabled by
what he gathered so far from the archives
was a catastrophic electromagnetic pulse
of global proportions

Tired of jumping from one
uninhabitable universe to the next
wanting so badly to stay
and call this world home
Gray fashioned himself a foil helmet
from the very material this odd planet
was comprised of and wore it

during his mission to sabotage
their mother ship's repair

Unfortunately, the latest wave of asteroids
came from out of the Void
slamming into the Sphere

killing the only family he'd ever known

And having known his thoughts, they
would've known where to run and hide
could've fled with him into the secret
interior chambers beneath the surface

where Gray discovered
an even greater solitude
for the remainder of his life
now lived

alone
