The Invasion

I haven't posted anything in a while, so I decided to share a story I was working on a few years back. It's not complete and it's probably full of errors and plot holes, but whatever. The concept of the story is that it's being told from three different point of views, that will converge into a whole at the around the ending of it. Please be aware, I'm not a writer, I just like to write, so criticism is ok, but don't go overboard. Hope you like and enjoy for the most part.

Hey, my name is James Meyers and the year was July 1989, when a race of humanoid aliens called the Hythrenians invaded our world.  I was twelve when they first landed in New York and began terrorizing the people. Within days the city was in total chaos. The government tried to annihilate them with skilled tactics, but were overpowered when the Hythrenian reinforcements came down. Within months the whole east coast was overtaken, and began to move west starting with my hometown of Redenton, Virginia. The mayhem that fell upon us was horrific, the people I’ve known for years were being killed right before my eyes, while the government was nowhere in sight. So, with the hope of surviving, the people abandoned Redenton, but not everyone made it out, including my father. The horror continued for three months and people all over the country begun to take shelter underground, and still no word from the government or the president, not until the invasion reached California.
All i remember from that day was being huddled up in a group with my mother, surrounding a radio, listening to a broadcasting of the president addressing the situation, while the screams of people from the area echoed in my ear. As the screams grew louder and louder, i remember him saying “we are in a state of emergency, but we have control over the matter, just stay hidden and safe until my next update of our situation"....lies, there wasn't another update. Within days, hope for surviving began to diminish, and with the children and elderly starving, a local from the area suggested some of them go look for food, my mother was part of the committee. Two hours had past, when the father of a local kid named Pete came barging in covered in blood, in a rash and hesitant voice he explained how they were ambushed at the store and how the rest fought to survive, praying that my mother was ok, he turned to me with a sadden look on his face, at that moment i knew she wasn't coming back.
It has been thirteen years since that fateful day, now the invasion spread worldwide and the creatures have taken control over the planet, but a few of the survivors have banded together to form a rebellion to fight back against them.  Me and Pete were the only survivors of our original group, he lost his mother and father a few years back in a raid the creatures made on our shelter, lucky we escaped, but ever since he has not been the same. We met up with Kara a few months later traveling with a group of survivors from the Midwest, she was beautiful. At first she came off as sort of timid individual but, as the days past and the more we were attacked I begun to see a difference in her that I didn’t see before and the more I begin to fall for her. It had been two months since we began to travel with Kara and her group, and the closer we became. Several days past with no word or sound from other survivors, and then one day we received a broadcast from a Dr. Jenson, saying there were a group of survivors in different countries arming themselves to fight back. Now, Pete, Kara, and I run a group of survivors to defend our country.

Pete became second in command and the leader of communication with the help of once technicians and others that worked in that field. Kara became head of the medical troops and became a very skilled fighter.  And I became the leader of the rebellion, while i seemed brave in front of the others; i felt like the kid back when i lost my mother.  As the years went by me and Kara became closer, even though Pete was my best friend, she was the one i would confide in. Pete on the other hand became obsess with getting revenge for the deaths of his parents, even putting himself and the group in countless dangerous situations. The days went on with communication between Dr. Jensen and the other groups becoming less and less, when a signal from an unknown source sent a message confirming a weak spot in the creatures’ defenses. This was the first sign we had in a long time of a brighter future, but with the fate of our group at stake i hesitated on the off chance that the information could be a trap, so i confronted Pete and Kara in hopes that i would get some help from the people i trusted the most.

With this information we could topple the creatures in a hard way, but the consequences of the attack could be damaging to our forces and the faith that is bestowed upon me if it turns out to be fake. Pete was all for the attack, and didn't care about the risk that was involved in doing this, but that was the angry that was getting to him. Kara, wanted to attack as well, but she knew what was going to happen if we fail and i know it tearing her up inside. But me, i was still wavering on whether the attack is the right choice, with the weight of hundreds of people resting on my shoulders i decided that would commence. After days of planning we decided to hit them from the west with two teams of 15 and 2 medics, while another team of over eighty men attacked from the east creating an opportunity for the teams to enter the base. The plan was for Pete to lead the diversion while I and Kara snuck into the base to find the generator room.

Surprisingly, it was going as planned. Once inside we broke the two teams up and initiated part two of it, with Kara leading her team to gather any Intel on how to stop them and my team to find the weak spot that was in the message. On the outside Pete and his team were getting overrun by their offenses, but they pushed on. Kara and her team finally made it to the creatures computer room the info that was gathered could bring this war to a close. My team however was not so lucky. As we reached the generator room, several of the creatures were waiting for us. I thought that we were done for, until gunfire from behind the enemy and reinforcements in the form of Pete's team busted in.

As bullets flew through the air and my men fell before my feet, I wondered if this was the right choice. Drowned in thought, I feel a hand press against my back and familiar but unclear word telling to move on, as I catch my composer the voice becomes clear and it’s Kara, and my confidence to continue on came rushing back. As I continued on to the main engine with Kara, I could see a brighter future for me and her, all of a suddenly I heard a gunshot and see Kara lying on the ground, fearing the loss of my love, I rush back to her. The bullet pierced her from behind, as I turn her over she grabs my hand and tells me to ‘finish what we started” with her last breathe. With angry coursing through my body I set the explosive to the generator and rush back to Pete’s side to have him and the rest of the teams to clear the base. As our teams make a break for the escape route and a bright light gleam onto my face, the explosive charge goes off in the room, releasing a shockwave of flame throughout the entire base.

As the days past I begin to isolate myself from Pete and the others. The guilt of the loss of Kara on our last mission had begun to cloud my judgment. With Kara gone some of the other could no longer trust me, and I understood why, how can I possible lead them now with me always second guessing myself wondering if this was the right move or if I could have prevented the whole fiasco, so I step down the lead and gave It to Pete for the time being. With Pete as the new leader I feel a little relieved.

As I look upon Pete as the new leader, a new mission came up to stop a group of Hythrenians from entering the boarder of California. His plan of attack was almost flawless, but knowing Pete and his impatient ways I had my doubts. As we begin to head out toward the boarder I grabbed Pete to pull him off to the side. As he turned to look at me, I notice this menacing glare of excitement and I begin to think that this power is starting to corrupt my once close and dear friend. I ask him was he up for this, in a cold tone he replied that this was the moment for he was waiting for to prove that he was meant to be the leader from day one, at that moment I knew I had lost him. He quickly snatches his arm from my grasp and continued to walk away. Now feeling completely only, I head to my room begin to pack, that was the last I seen of Pete and the group.

Hi my name is Peter Henderson and I’m from a small town called Humford, Indiana, my life was perfect before the Hytherians invaded our planet, I had lots of friends and a great family. But, when they came to my town my whole world changed. I was only eleven years old and had to experience the horror of my friends dying all around me. The invasion lasted three months with no help from our so called government and the surviving members of my community began to take shelter underground where they could, that is when I met James and his mother.

He told me about the mayhem that happened in his hometown and how he lost his father. With the days pasting by and food supply running out, my father and some others decided to leave to find food.  Even though I was so young I could tell that our current situation was hopeless. Two hours had past, when my father came bursting in covered in blood my mother begin to scream as I run to him, with tears running down my eyes from relief. As I turn and look at James I notice this shocked and sad look on his face, I turn to look back at my father and saw a disappointed and disgusted look. With no one left my parents and I took James in as part of our family. It has been 3 years since James lost his mother and became part of my family, life underground was harsh but at least we were still alive, food was nearly gone and hopes for survival was beginning to diminish as time pasted. Then one day after my adults got back from foraging for food, a group of Hytherians raided our shelter. My father and other members of our group tried to slow them down as much as they could while we escaped into the woods  but they efforts was for not, because within a few minutes they were
