A Mind Off-Grid, Nr.03 - The Well
I look at the timer-clock on the cooker
it reads 19.56 - the year I was born
I think “is that it? One self-
published poetry book on Amazon with
three copies sold, or is that four
including my brother?”
“You’re a Fellow of the Royal Society
got a Ph.D in Philosophy & Technology
have published academically
are inventive, creative and read to me
whilst I’m knitting …” says a voice
“… you chop up 12 cubic metres of wood each year
do the ironing, tidy the kitchen, fix stuff …
… and I love you very much” she concludes
The vines and olive trees need their second pruning
the new improved compost-system needs attention
and I’m wondering whether the rocket-stove
some Dutch guy has perfected will really be the answer
I glance at the timer-clock again
it reads 20.17 - Jesus, already
A 50 metre trench needs digging to bury an irrigation pipe
another patch of brambles needs clearing
and the washing machine will cost more to repair than
buying a new one
But ...
... but there’s water in the well. Oh yes
even after a long dry patch there has always been water in the well.
I’m so lucky.
