Image for the poem The Bitter Half

The Bitter Half

Stick the blade right in here
Between my ribs, let it slip
Into the painful recess
Slowly building against my heavy breath

Turn it in place and tear open
Let the hate bleed out and release
This seething tension ravaging my core,
The ravenous blood racing to my head

Calm the thumping in my mind
Silence the drum in my chest
Steal my words forever
Chasing peace, or what’s left.

Scarlet, streaks aimless and bold
The reasons are mine and mine alone
How I wish to be truly free!
The sooner I take this out of me the better.
