More Than Looks

Do not just tell me that I look pretty.
Tell me that I have goodness in my
Heart. You do not just see the city

Lights. Darling, you see the tears I cry
While the makeup is running down
My face. I know that you do not deny

Me because I do not wear a crown.
We know that I am no beauty queen.
You see the crookedness of my frown.

Nothing is wiped completely clean.
You like my legs and you like my hair.
Do you see that I am no delicate figurine?

Maybe it is the way I watch you stare,
But do you still want and love me?
It does not matter what I choose to wear.

You always notice and see
My personality so much more
Than what I look like. Please guarantee

That you liked me way before
I changed. I am still the same,
But I am no longer at the back door.

That beautiful girl in the picture frame
Is the same one standing right before you.
She tries to not have negativity or shame

Seen shining in her eyes. She is a true
Believer in a happy ending
And a sky that is always blue.
