[ NaPo 2017 ] Storm Chaser, Retired

As fascinating as tornadoes are
I no longer have anything to gain
in chasing you down and placing
myself in the path of destruction

This rainy day woman has long
saved up for the quietude afforded
within a  cone of silence

far removed from your
out of control dervish whirlings
now predictably manifesting in
twenty-four/seven increments
of such inclement weather
forecasted in vane

She has arrived at an
apex of understanding;
those calms before the
storms never last

The true act of bravery
lies in self preservation---
running away from being
sucked up into a spectacle
no longer capable of
course correction
