Thanks for commenting Marie. I grew up a Catholic and found it to be nothing more than a school for learning shame, both the church and the Catholic school I attended. They left me wondering how one was ever supposed to be forgiven for their sins. I went to confession and it was just a load of rubbish and Hail Mary's. I often thought I had simply lost my faith, but later realized that I never had faith. I had lessons spanked into my brain and hymns sung into my ears, but I never believed a word of it. I think in all my doubts I have more belief than I ever had as a Catholic child, but now I am more concerned with searching my soul for the faith I have always desired. The only way to repent is to first commit sin. The church makes it so shameful to sin that when you go to confession, no one wants to confess their true sins, even though it is supposedly anonymous, to some degree. It feels like their is an angry mob of zealots waiting outside the confessional door with stones waiting to be thrown at your head. The hypocrisy of the Catholic church is even more obvious today than when I was a child growing up in it. I wish that I had known who James Kavanaugh was when I was 10 years old instead of not finding out until my brother gave me his book of poetry, "There Are Men Too Gentle To Live Among Wolves" and later reading his prose book, "A Modern Priest Takes A Look At His Outdated Church". I learned more about myself from those two books than anything else I have ever read. jj
