First, I'm trying to imagine how people who haven't read/seen this would interpret it. I imagine a type of multiple personality disorder arguing with themselves in regards to possession, much in the manner of Siamese twins vying for opposite directions.
They wouldn't be far off-base, and there's your first point. Composing a poem based on something not all have seen, and being able to relate it to a parallel, or in Josh's case, firing up the imagination, isn't as easy as one would think.
Second, while "Dreamcatcher" wasnt my favorite (I related to The Langoliers more, probably because of space-time continuum), I still connected on a deep level because of my own personal belief in extra terrestrial lifeforms (living in New Mexico didn't make a believer out of me, it confirmed what I innately knew). Posession is an ancient concept and you can't get any better than n alien one vs a hellish demonic one. Nothing gives hell a run for its money like a shit weasel. [/shudders]
You've taken a 900 page book and captured the underlying thesis of not only possession, but invasion. The fourth and fifth stanzas are chilling to the bone, and by mere font alone dictates source back to the first. It's indicative of the scene from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" where you hear 'Amazing Grace' from the shipyard (depicted here as an operator), right before the channel is switched to news (depicted here as a survey). I remember the hope followed immediately by its loss - and those stanzas nail it.
Lastly, the mental telepathy and mind-battle throughout the plot of the story is evident in the poem and contrasted by the actual conversation conveyed in Hope. Nope. Hope. Nope. Hope...
And that's where you leave us hanging with our own imagination and experiences to relate to. Except for King fans. Who are more than likely saying, "Hell yeah!"

Now THAT is a critique. So you know, I would have been happy with just the Hell Yeah. I'm trying to be more spontaneous compared to most of my other SK writes that were tweaked slowly over the course of an entire year ( a few of which were invested with at least 20 hours of editing each ). This one was finished in about 15 minutes.
