allegory for evermore
she lays there with her mouth open a little, her legs open
just enough. she wants it because she knows I want it.
knows I want her.
she tells me things, too many things. hassles & worries & escapes.
escapes to poetry, art, & music. to the arms of the man she believes
me to be. she says my name too much. maybe to hear it echo in
the lonely, lovely dark.
we make a list of things a man & woman can write about. love. sex.
a broken hero or a fallen angel. the last light of moons & motels &
the horrible distance a heart can cry.
what her face looks like, how her hair feels when I’m near. the
uncertainty of embraces – why she would want a man like me
this close to her.
as she awaits my entry (her cunt’s subtle petrichor), she listens vaguely
to the night sounds. the blonde singer, singing slave to love. a
melancholy melody delivered by the rain, a train going somewhere
that’s not here.
when I go in, it’s eager & raw, its name is desperation. I need it without
asking forgiveness. of heaven or hell.
poetry is far away, but close. it’s in a cigarette pack. in a whiskey bottle.
2 cups of coffee – if we write about it, it won’t be this pretty…

How to comment on a piece like this?
It's a bit 'softer' (no offence) than your usual work and it has so many beautiful lines that it's hard to choose a favorite, but "when I go in, it’s eager & raw, its name is desperation" and "if we write about it, it won’t be this pretty" are just stunning!
I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my favorite songs in your poem...
Excellent write, John

Beauty in things not meant to be beautiful;
this is poetry. We write it, feel it, live it, and it becomes us.

A terrific description of the "dance in the darkness" between a man and woman. Great images and details especially in the second and third stanzas and the fantastic ending. Awesome work, John !

That final couplet is Feddeler's trademark. Poetry is the beauty in everything.

My Dear Duende and I are in agreement...those would be my favorite lines as well here...they stole breath from me. I am sorry for my tardiness...I need to be sure and divide time rather than put all of it on one thing...I will be keeping this one close. With love, always - Kitten xoxo

Sounds like a fine lady for an interlude, both creative and erotic.
we make a list of things a man & woman can write about. love. sex.
a broken hero or a fallen angel. the last light of moons & motels &
the horrible distance a heart can cry.
Might be a collaborator to keep forevermore. Excellent.

"a cunt’s subtle petrichor"... something I'll be thinking about next time it starts to rain. The opening lines caught my eye, then I was drawn in by the sombre and honest narration about the uncertainty of love. I guess reality is our perception of truth and sometimes our love can be so untouchable that we lose sight of what's real. Thought provoking love poem indeed, Mr Feddeler.
