March
welcome rains fall
lightning flashes on the mountains
clouds roll in
dark and heavy
she stands in it
watching drops
gather on glass,
outside the storefronts
the water collects on awnings,
heavy drips cascading onto pavement
in a rhythmic beat
she steps inside
a bar, for a glass of red wine,
enjoying the friendly banter
she takes a small reprieve
from the wet,
watching the road outside
become a river
of black
a kind man offers to walk
her back to her car,
under his umbrella,
she smiles, thanks him,
shakes her head no,
she politely tells him,
"I love the rain
it's only water"
