[ SK ] Going Mad
Rose
I'm going mad
with every waking moment
taken in by your canvas;
what a wonder-land-scape
Ariadne
No escape to be had
You've run out of frame to hide in
My dearest Rose
here is what I propose
no strings attached:
I will do for you
what you would do for me
Rose
Bad things?
Ariadne
Yes, very bad things
Rose
My dearest Ariadne
what you would do for me
I will do for you
I'll plant a seed for the two of us
Ariadne & Rose
Ripening fruits of our labors plucked
from poisonous trees
Delicious pomegranate juices sucked
from bull headed men in our lives
who bring us miseries daily

invariably bleed

no longer need

The author encourages honest critique.
I had mixed feelings about this book. The poem is obviously the husband's POV then Rose's (mimicking the ending, except typically Rose's perspective was first.) I thought that part was interesting in that King Stepped back and forth between them, like playing a game of chess with yourself.
I found the ending a bit drug out; however, did enjoy the alternating perspective between victim and criminal.
What I really enjoyed about this was the Greek Mythology reference, and personally thought King was masterful for working it in. You're the only other person (besides myself) I know who's referenced Ariadne in a poem here. Later archivists referred to Ariadne's Thread as a means to find their way back from the labyrinth of archives or they could be lost forever (a chilling account written by José Saramago in his novel "All the Names").
The way King, and you in this poem, wove them together as a means of abuse demonstration and the subsequent escape thereof is brilliant.

I'm trying to alternate perspectives between first Rose and the Ariadne and then have them speak in unison in the end. It's a really tough sell; the one out of the entire batch that I'm not real forthcoming until the halfway mark with elements familiar to King readers.
