The Weight

My shoulders hunched from the weight I imagine
Is keeping me from flying above the unworthy
The ground stretches out further with each step
Always leading away from failures still before me

Hunger strikes me in the hours before sleep
Allowing me to forget how I starve for my dreams
Leaving me to wonder if the visions that haunt me
Are nightmares or memories I wish I could forget

I can't hold a conclusion for ten minutes
While every thought fades with each solution
Wishing I could recall in that moment of clarity
What the answer had questioned me to find

Who can unburden the hands beneath me of my weight
That keeps the forgotten lifting me to the empty sky?
The one unworthy of faith and praise that held up high
Reading the book that recalls words of imagined Holy shit

I might see where I stand when the climax has calmed
I might see the storm was always mine to weather alone
Cracks litter the dirt under feet broken from the weight
Of unheard confessions and sins no one is there to forgive
