I gift to you this heart shaped box,
Pray you hold it in careful hands.
Treat it well I beg of you,
And show it the love that it demands.
I'm not going to lie, it's in bad shape,
With hearts like this you never can tell.
Will it still beat as strong as before,
Has it seen the depths of hell?
Ah just here, look closely now,
Do you see that tear?
Nevermind that an accident of sorts,
That stuff tends to happen here and there.
Oh now fix your eyes on this,
A scorch mark, I don't want to lead you astray.
Give it a dust the mark will fade,
Or just look at it another way.
Ah dear what a mess a break,
I'm sorry it's much deeper than I thought.
The previous owner must have been careless,
I'm sure they would have fixed it if caught.
A bit of tarnish not good but not in fact bad,
Step in close do you feel it's heat?
Drop your ear just an inch more,
Can you hear the steady beat?
This heart may have taken a bashing of that there is no doubt,
But hush the negative words you have spoken.
For this heart, it fights to give unconditional,
And love as if it has never been broken.
