for him

In stolen moments
When the sky transitions fron indigo
to clear cerulean August,
When crickets stop
And first rays of sun
Push through sheer curtains,
I pull your arm over me,
Fitting my back to your chest,
Slowing my breath to yours.

Our hearts beat in unison
And I forget
We cook our eggs differently
I like the runny ones
That stave off hangovers
And yours are hard saucers.

I forget we drink different coffees.
You like coffeehouse blends
Rife with exotic sophistication
I'm satisfied with maxwell house
and five spoons of sugar.

I forget my car screams Drowning Pool,
Yours is serenaded in Amy Winehouse,
And common ground
Sometimes isn't very common.

I just know the alarm clock reads
4:30 in neon green
And when August breezes whisper in
Your arm pulls me closer
My snore matches yours
Breathing patterns, heartbeats,
And my world and your world
Collide just perfectly.
