more like me
She has my eyes
Muddy brown and razor sharp
All at the same time
Thick heavy lashes
Fall like velvet curtains
after encore.
I hear my laugh in hers
The high-pitched snort
The total abandon
And it's all captured
In a smile like mine
My daughter is so much like me
Acts like me
Never accepts a hand up or out
Has no use for antiquated conventions
She is never impressed by
Chivalry.
We are mirror images almost
Of course, her hair is still blond
Her skin, clear and golden
Unmarred and smooth
Her eyes sparkle with opportunity
Mine were dull in despair
Even in those days
My biggest fear reflects
In my most common prayer:
I hope she never wears
Any of my scars.
