We need oil. We need jobs. Bring it on.

No; we DON'T need oil. We NEED alternative energy sources like Burlington, Vermont, Greensburg, Kansas, or Aspen, Colorado. All of which run on 100% renewable energy. The entire country of Costa Rica has been running on 100% renewable energy for 6 months straight.   
   
Renewable energy creates jobs too, and doesn't violate treaties with my people,  or desecrate sacred burial grounds, nor pollute water sources or land like the, oh, I don't know, over 100 pipeline spills in America since 2000.

Since 1986, pipeline accidents have killed more than 500 people, injured over 4,000, and cost nearly seven billion dollars in property damages. Also, it is impossible to clean up oil once it’s spilled into our rivers. Anything to the contrary is a myth.   
   
Was a country not enough for the white man, Jerry? Was stealing my ancestor's lands, raping their women, murdering their tribes, and pushing them onto minute reservations so you could swallow every acre you could muster not enough?   
   
You do, in your ignorance, realize that this pipeline was rerouted because an affluent white section opposed it on their land?  Because, you know, "Indians"...

Oppression looms over the innocent.

Prophetic indeed. The struggle is ongoing. We can and are meant to exist without polluting our environment. Oil dependence is perpetuated by those who profit from it, the narrative of its necessity is part of that. We will evolve or die. Such is life.

Bravo my sister - from The Mahabharata to Homer and on and on poetry has been about the war inside and outside and the love inside and outside
On the poetry I had the sense of oil and heroin here a false addiction to fossil fuel and destruction of the sacred
On the politics - this is a direct attack on indigenous people - the pipeline can be rerouted at negligible cost compared to the cost of the operation or even the cost that the delay and loss on their share price has already cost them - the bigger question is who does this conflict serve?

It's not only a bigger question but the best question, Brother. It's a Canadian pipeline that will sell the oil to China (you know, the place where President Trump has his ties and hats made). Ironic, hey?

Fascinating the various ways the word "Black" takes on so many meanings.

this is relevant, important, bloody necessary
tho it's not my country, it part of my global village
& i have wept for the state it is in.
this is a case of one man repeating history for personal gain,
it is unconscionable considering the blood already staining that land...
