To My Future Spouse

I’ll write this song to my future spouse
state my undying love by lilt of verse
borne by singing voice with words conveyed
across the bridge of time when they’ll hear
my exclamations will convey desire
they’re only written to state my case
when I’m made mute on that fated day
by abject beauty worn on face and limbs.

Future spouse, love of mine
hear my words across the void
time and space will guide you here
to meet me on the other side.

My bottle’s been cast to the far currents
in sea-worn glass etched by past regrets
enclosing all I’ve longed to convey
found on the shore of my future helpmate
I know not how long or far this will take
as currents meld to the whims of fate
in an ocean wide enough for the world
but not so big as to hide my spouse.

Future spouse, love of mine
hear my words across the void
time and space will guide you here
to meet me on the other side.

Melodies shall echo long on that day
I ask nothing more as the tunes are expressed
verses ringing as I acknowledge beauty's
presence in that future realm of belonging
who is the one who will gather my words
in the basket that comprises their heart
these chambers with room where I could live
with bless happiness found in future’s course?

Future spouse, love of mine
hear my words across the void
time and space will guide you here
to meet me on the other side
to meet me on the other side
the other side.

The song “To My Future Spouse” was written for a competition with the challenge “write a song showing your love and desire for your partner”. I have a friend who writes letters to their future spouse. I thought it would be a neat twist for the song to be addressed to the same.
