The Beer Diary

This isn't so much of a poem,
not like one of those wrist cutting accounts
of lost loves or bereaved moments.
It is a simple and easy write
to get it out of the way...
How I imagine it should be.

A general check up
is now known as a 'well being test.'
They say I'm not doing too well.
Something about the amount of units
drunk each week
and a small dose of high blood pressure.

I just wanted my eyes and ears checked,
hoping that the nurse would cup my balls,
but I left with the promise of a blood test
and a request...
They want me to keep a diary!

I'll write it down
as I drink it
show it to them in two weeks
when they can recommend AA
and I can explain how we're not here
for the same reasons
as each other
