December

I have not seen you
Since this long time,
The storm was wild last night
And rain............
Too much to expect,I suppose
The gable end,no place
In the cold of winter.

Where are your chicks?
Gone away like mine
To nest themselves
Find mates, make love....
Enjoy yourselves,all of you,
Time is now, not yesterday.

Come again to me next year
Beware the cat.....
But Jack will see him off
He sleeps sound tonight
There is no fox about,
As once there was
Four years back....
He does not know his worth.

Black bird where are you tonight?
I see you on the terrace lawn
At early dawn,
But I've been late this week
And only see  hollows in the bread
I so generously discard
When its  stale!
You deserve more than charity
dear friend.

Promenade concerts
Every summers 'night,
Eight 'til late, while I sip wine.
The sparrows twitter
But not for me;
Finches talk among themselves,
Robin only wants the worms
I disturb when forking in the border
Sits upon the handle
Tweets, and cocks his eye

I can trust you
Do you trust me?
There is a yew tree at the front
I put it there awhile back
It's now five feet
A foot a year.....
(Yes time has flown)
See it from the window
Round, uterine, warm and safe
Oh! that I could share the space.

Sleep songster, sleep
Hide among the folds,
Save your throat for summer
Come back if time allows us both
If not let us share our children
Come to sing your random tunes
And share a glass with me
