the Story of a Little Girl

little bird, little world
she sits on her perch
behind the cover of a gilded glass
silently gazes out onto the streets
and wonders at the sky

Frightened precious thing
I heard you singing
on the night they abandoned you
your hands are cold
let me warm them with mine
there's no need to fret
over that night

Little bird, little girl
she drank from the chalices
filled to the brim with our wine
in a daze she saw the sun
as if for the very first time

Precious flower
toss aside your little book
let me show you the ways of sin
this taint has a kind of power
innocence longs to obtain

she took the blade by its handle
and for once smiled at its shine..

we reveled in a glory
found only in a godless land
deaf to the cries of the insane
prostrated to a myth in the sky
she never once questioned why
never once thought to look back
at a past where she once was blind

Little bird in her little world
her eyes have opened
to a whole new light
once a little girl
now no more
she grew into her wings
and took flight..
