Quetzalcoatl

One serpent learned to fly
Countless years ago
A god twixt earth and sky
When the blood began to flow...
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The high priest contemplates her and sighs
This naked virgin before him on the altar
Painted turquoise blue from head to toe
She trembles under his gaze
Spread-eagled, strapped and stretched
Her cries rise to the sky
Sensed by the Feathered Serpent
His ire falling towards the fire
The Priest casts aside the dagger
Fumbles with his jeweled robe
Releases the sacred rod
And the virgin's shrieks become a moan
Silencing the ululation of the crowd
The Priest enters her and thrusts
A steady, measured rhythm
The innocent's cry now a refrain
Drifting to the Serpent's aerie
He nods his acceptance
Fresh scales turning silver
Falling like rain.
