Wanderlust

Bookworm
They call me
They say I'm young
I should go out into the world and see it for myself
Put down the books
Stop reading of worlds other people discovered and go explore the one waiting outside
As if it's such a simple thing
Deciding what In the world I want to see
I have just the one life
And it would take so much longer than one to see all I want to see
To live all of what I want to live
I want to walk the coastlines of every country that perches on the edge of every ocean
Dipping my head in rock pools and hesitating at the mouth of every cave
I want to climb every mountain
and look back from each peak to see the last one I conquered
to remind myself that life has more than one summit

I want to live as a hermit
Just me, my heart and I
On an island the size of a pin prick on a map
Living as simple as it gets
In a little Hut battered by the sand thrown by the ocean winds
Listening to the might of things bigger than my thoughts all through the night
As the waves break across the beach.

I want all of it
and more

If was to step out of that door
And walk the world the long way round
Until I see this place from the other side
I wonder if It would look like home?

I was born a traveler
A wanderer, a gypsy only able to move in thoughts
I wasn't born with these roots
The oldest ones feel like the spikes I've  been impaled on.
And they hold me firm for now
But I'll sit and read
And wade through world's I've never seen
until one day at last I'll pick the life I want to lead
walk out of a door and become the person I've always almost been
I won't set off down that road  because I'm slave to the whims of my nature
I'll go when I find something
So profound
It outshines even the mystery of possibility
But I have a sneaking suspicion
that the world I want to live in
Doesn't exist out there
So I won't find it
Whole and complete
Waiting on the other side of the road
I'll have to sit in a room and build it
Piece by piece
