Image for the poem starlight

starlight

I stir the mist lightly
so not to trouble
the murky black

I know all about the dark
seek the light with my soul

a place where I have wings
no longer tethered to the Earth

somewhere demons can't follow
being tied to the bowels of this kingdom

I take flight in my night terrors
with mighty wings
into the night air
flee Lucifer who seeks to confound me

tempted with drugs
done in days past
straight jacket thoughts
that strangle in sleep

I evade him among the stars
they shine brightly
guide me home

my final destination
in the heavens
my place secure among their ranks
