Precious One

Previous one, first amongst equals,
we are not connected at the hip,
no wedding ring shared amongst,
but to you I will fully trust
my heart and soul, be what they are.

I may not be perfect, far from it.
I am a fallen one, God's unworthy son.
All will admit you're the better one,
closer to heaven than this poor soul,
but still you grace me with your company.

Together we dance in almost romance,
comfortable in each others arms.
No more than some time spent dancing,
grooving with a person familiar so,
shelter from a world inconsiderate.

Enough connections, separate worlds,
similar interests, lives removed,
I am content with the way we fit.
Other may not fully understand,
this shared experience we both have.

Precious one, your smile is enough,
the only payment I seek to have
for this time we spend together.
Grasp my hand, hold fast to me,
we on this ride of life combined,
my dear friend, holder of heart and soul.

Another heartfelt poem, this one about support we receive from people who are almost romantic partners, those who are an important part of our lives.
