Image for the poem Bad

Bad

stretched as far as I could toward the sky
giggling like a schoolgirl
as I fell
with a thud from grace
in the immoral clutches
of my Sunday School teacher
having bitten into the flesh of life
savored the saccharine
for sweetness had been laced with dread
walked down scary roads
entered into heretofore unknown
worlds lustful and bloody
tasting bright lights
quenching my thirst at
the Last Chance Lounge and Fleshpit
social order run amok
took my shoes off
rolled up my pants legs
and wallowed into the deep-end of the sewer
I attacked the world, both fist clenched
gritting my teeth
giving no quarter, asking for none
saw things which trouble me still
not such a nice place out there
but then
I wasn't looking for nice

old now
never ever thought this far ahead
when I thought at all
thought I'd be room temperature
long before now
just goes to show you
even bad
has a chance
