Image for the poem flowers

flowers' rain

the darkness heralded the rain
the rain came
of its own making
thunder rolling
lightening flashing
highlighted wildflowers
seemed to take special interest
with one flower
time and again thunder boomed
lightening lit up the flower
a wildflower which stood out
from all the rest
its colors were light blue to purple
outstanding among the others
something about it
touched me deeply inside
almost continuous thunder and then
brilliant lightening
the flower seemed to reach
toward the sky
I wanted go to the wildflower bed
I felt so close to it
somehow each time the lightening
highlighted the flower
it seemed
to reach out toward me
as though
offering me its friendship
my mind was reeling
surely it was the wind
that caused her
I mean it
to look like it was reaching
out to me
the thunder and the rain
the flower and me
felt like praying the rain would never end
but of course end it did
I sat back
took a deep breath
the storm had moved on
leaving me with such a strange feeling
it was still pitch black outside
I stood
grabbed my flashlight
stepped outside
made my way to the flower
shone the light on it
it still stood taller than the others
I stood there watching it
my goodness
I felt as one with this special flower
bent down and brushed my lips
across its petals
I shivered
stood walked back to the house
collapsed into my EZ Chair
and spent the rest of the night
trying to get a grip on what had taken place

                      * * *

next morning I peered out the window
there it was . . . my flower
my friend forever
