Painted Life
paintings are like poems
they all have a story to tell
some of them are hopeful
some are filled with hurt
each in a different color
in a different style or size
just like humans they are
enriched with variations
born in various countries
we all must share a planet
some of us live in freedom
but not everyone is lucky
many are born in poverty
in areas which are not safe
survival is the harsh reality
until all they can do is flee
their voices must be heard
by people all over the world
cruel stories of fear and war
of lives shredded to pieces
if we all would just listen
and stop turning our heads
from lives that long for help
& stories that must be told
they all have a story to tell
some of them are hopeful
some are filled with hurt
each in a different color
in a different style or size
just like humans they are
enriched with variations
born in various countries
we all must share a planet
some of us live in freedom
but not everyone is lucky
many are born in poverty
in areas which are not safe
survival is the harsh reality
until all they can do is flee
their voices must be heard
by people all over the world
cruel stories of fear and war
of lives shredded to pieces
if we all would just listen
and stop turning our heads
from lives that long for help
& stories that must be told

Thank you so much, Adam!
I heard and seen a lot of heartbreaking stories, so yes... this one was written from the heart!

This makes me think of the Syrian refugees and what they have to endure. Personally, I'd like to see them offered asylum in the U.S.A. and elsewhere, not returned to probable death.

in areas which are not safe
survival is the harsh reality
until all they can do is flee
I do gather that "Painted Life" considers refugees in general. They come from other backgrounds but must flee persecution and slaughter. A huge tragedy. Thanks for writing about this, and so eloquently.

Thank you so much for your comment, Crowfly!
Great to hear you share my opinion that refugees (not only the Syrian) should be offered asylum, so many people say: send them back, without realizing it's often impossible!
This poem is about refugees in general... I worked with them, so I heard stories from all over the world! Even written some short stories about that, but I'm not sure if I will post them...
I really appreciate your comment!

This a beautifully written piece. It is a reminder for all of us to come together. I love the photo too. It all ties together quite well. Thanks for sharing this deep and emotional piece.

Great to hear you think it all ties together! I had this idea of how paintings are like poems who tell stories, so I had to do something with that! I'm grateful it is received so well :-)

Re. Painted Life
The painting is absolutely beautiful and the way you painted its essence into poetry so perfectly sends a powerul message that all of us could learn from. The two together were a masterpiece and I only wish the world was a much more forgiving place. Maybe, some day all of its colors and flavors will be appreciated for what they are...

We share the same wish, Kasai!
Calling this a masterpiece and saying the painting is perfectly painted into the poem means a lot to me! I feel truly honored that you think this is a powerful message!
Thank you so much for your smile inducing comment :-)

Re. Painted Life
"Paintings tell a story" - this piece about contemporary refugees reminds me of Picasso's painting "Guernica", depicting a town bombed during the Spanish Civil War (which often think of when I read/see news about the Syrian Civil War).

Thank you so much for your comment and giving your thoughts on this one! I can see how my poem reminds you of Picasso's Guernica! My father made a replica of it, so I grew up with that painting... your comment made me smile :-)

Thanks for your comment, Boian!
It might seem like an utopia and the reality is that the world is full of hatred in stead of love, but I wish to believe nothing is impossible...

The painting...although, not an art form, I find myself admiring often, I really like it. It's so unique. I'd definitely hang one like that on my wall. Very pretty.

I came back to this one and found out I missed your last comment (maybe I didn't realize you commented twice) I'm so glad to hear you love the painting... he has several styles; Picasso like paintings, abstracts and this style... it's indeed unique :-)

The painting, although, not an art form <~~ Lol. I think I might have mangled the commas on that comment. But, anyway!!! Hey Duende!!
