an Angel's Wings Unfurled

I got up late and sped off to work for another dreadful day
Stopped to eat two Egg-Mcmuffins along my un-merry way
Washed 'em down with diet Coke without a moment to delay
Driving to a job I hate because I've got too many bills to pay

When I arrived I learned it was my turn to watch over Satan's child
The little girl the nurses called the devil's spawn, untamable and wild
Be careful with that one, they warned, don't become beguiled
Or even worse, she'll cast her curse, in dung you'll be defiled

The beatings she pounded into her lonely confused head
Would drain me of my energy while scratches formed and bled
At first I feared there was truth in every word they said
That I'd end up wishing I called in sick and stayed at home in bed

Yet something else entirely came over me while witnessing her pain
There was a gentle light emerging like a rainbow after years of rain
Demons once cloaked within my darkness were suddenly made plain
As all the fear I held so dear and fed my endless hate began to wane

The morning Ro-Ro tore away the blindfold from my eyes
I was reborn in angelic light that exposed my hopeless life of lies
All of the hatred I kept tucked beneath my falsely meek disguise
Escaped out of my bleeding heart and allowed my soul to rise
