Miss'ing West

(a pantoum)

How I came turning to the West
Came Miss’ing those words I would know
With different hills a different crest
A rising to Sun’s setting show

Came Miss’ing those words I would know
Appeared at San Anselmo’s turn
A rising to Sun’s setting show
In echoes call a different yearn

Appeared at San Anselmo’s turn
And holding thru that long straight run
In echoes call a different yearn
I turn to Marshall’s setting Sun

And holding thru that long straight run
Where one drive brought our first release
I turn to Marshall’s setting Sun
To seek a new drive’s coming peace

Where one drive brought our first release
Now you appear come for a ride
To seek a new drive’s coming peace
Not Miss’ing now you by my side

Now you appear come for a ride
Light cotton breezes showing me
Not Miss’ing now you by my side
With peach and purple’s smiling lea

Light cotton breezes showing me
A stand of trees and western eye
With peach and purple’s smiling lea
The place our love can sanctify

A stand of trees and western eye
With gate thrown wide in honeyed hues
The place our love can sanctify
With you on me and me in you

With gate thrown wide in honeyed hues
I watch our praise through ruffled hair
With you on me and me in you
The Sun receives our bodies’ prayer

I watch our praise through ruffled hair
How I came turning to the West
The Sun receives our bodies’ prayer
With different hills a different crest
