Image for the poem Beyond the Damage Done

Beyond the Damage Done

Looking upon smooth skin

Astounding how seamless

This puppet is in appearance

Though I know the secrets mending behind thin folds

A patchwork of stitches

Running along the body like a wild river

In scar tissue there is so much strength

A mouthful of blood

The crazed smile of realization that there is nothing left to be
broken

Eyes blackening towards my attackers

“Come get more of me!”

Piercing into the confrontation

Like teeth into soft, raw meat
