No love is unconditional
No love is unconditional.
At least, no healthy love.
Would you love them if:
they abuse you?
they abuse your children?
they murder your mother?
they cut off your hand?
If you still love them after all that.. there's something WRONG with you.
All love has conditions, even if they mostly go unspoken.
Even parental love.
You hear all the time of parents kicking their children out and disowning them just for loving or being a different gender than the parents had expected.
Not to mention if the child has different beliefs than the parent, a different religion.
The above aren't the conditions which break every parent's love, but they show there ARE limits.
No matter the type of love, be it romantic, familial, filial, platonic, etc., no healthy love is unconditional.

I could disagree and let me give you an example or two...I love snakes especially the poisonous ones...ditto tigers.
The trick is to love unconditionally with wisdom and distance recognising that if you step in the Tiger's cage you will get bit. So I have learnt to love all things unconditionally, but do due diligence on all possible dangers and keep my distance where advisable. Such is the wisdom of being ancient.

I suppose I should have specified that I was speaking of love toward/between humans, not the love people have for inanimate objects or animals.

You're right. It's so easy to throw the word love around that it indeed seems like a conditional mood. I do hope time and experience allows you to know that the only true love is unconditional. Good luck. You are loved.

If you would love someone even if they pinned you down and cut off your hand, that's insanity, not love.
Insanity is unconditional. Love is not.
Saying that the person you love would never do something like that just means that it IS a condition to your love, but that you don't ever expect to encounter said condition.
Of COURSE you fall in love with people who you don't believe would ever be a serial killer/rapist, would never mutilate you, aren't part of the KKK, or whatever else you personally abhor, but that doesn't mean that those aren't still conditions to your love.
(btw, I know I'm loved; I've been married for 10 years to my wonderful husband)

The only unconditional love is a pet. Go beat it and see that it will come back to you with love.
