Accidental Death

 Walking past her grandmother's house
She called out to me from her perch on the porch
Inviting me inside with her pleasingly soft greeting
Yet something about her tone chilled me to the bone
Her face glowed with the shadows of a beauty queen
but her smile echoed with moans of infinite sadness
I could swear I recognized her sweet essence buried deep somewhere
So I accepted her invitation into the home I had visited many times
As my presence disturbed the silence of the sorrow filled walls
I heard the door close behind me and then a scuffle in the kitchen
From the kitchen entrance an older man and woman walked towards me
They angrily asked me what I was doing in their living room
I told them she asked me to come in, as I turned to the front door
Pointing to the angelic girl who invited me to share a dish of candy delights
I was stunned to see that she had vanished into the thin cold air
And the old woman I knew all my life transformed into a raging demon
Breathing fire to burn away the remaining scent of her fallen angel
Taken from her world by the thunder of gun fire by her own hand
An accident as she cleaned the special gift she bought for her brother
Ruled a suicide by the cold coroner who ignored an act of love
Your spirit can rest in peace now that the truth has been set free

(By JJ for the angel Linda who came to visit me)
