Bridge by the water
One tragic line is only worth as much
As the sorry words that it took to make it a line
And a tragic heart is worth a lifetime
Of sorrow and pain, bathed in salt
And wet with tears
Sorrow has a way of leading us to places
We have never thought to explore
I followed, and when I saw my soldier
Leaning against the ropes of a crafted bridge
In the heat of an August sun,I knew
The ocean cast deep reflections in the brown
Of his shaded eyes and his face was thoughtful
As he searched the whitecaps
For glimpses of his sordid past
And maybe his future as well
His tears were hidden,drifting
Like the cadence of a fading love poem
Set free for the tide to claim
Becoming an endless burial at sea
He waits for me there,in the sun
I fell deep into his embrace
And kissed him the only way I knew how
I said nothing for there were no words
Our poem was made of this: a kiss
He waited for me,on the bridge by the water
As the sorry words that it took to make it a line
And a tragic heart is worth a lifetime
Of sorrow and pain, bathed in salt
And wet with tears
Sorrow has a way of leading us to places
We have never thought to explore
I followed, and when I saw my soldier
Leaning against the ropes of a crafted bridge
In the heat of an August sun,I knew
The ocean cast deep reflections in the brown
Of his shaded eyes and his face was thoughtful
As he searched the whitecaps
For glimpses of his sordid past
And maybe his future as well
His tears were hidden,drifting
Like the cadence of a fading love poem
Set free for the tide to claim
Becoming an endless burial at sea
He waits for me there,in the sun
I fell deep into his embrace
And kissed him the only way I knew how
I said nothing for there were no words
Our poem was made of this: a kiss
He waited for me,on the bridge by the water

the romance of old bridges, Kas,
we never know what will occur;
poems & kisses, we never get enough...

There's something timeless about a kiss on a bridge
The stuff memories are made of.
Beautiful write!

Fantastic write. Strong melancholic undertones. Very well structured and flowing.

Lady Kasai. . .in love with the simplicity of this title; in awe of what it conveys particularly the August sun in place of a moon - a great touch. . .~xo, Devlin.

The poem has a lot of grammar slip ups where the next word begins right after the comma, but other than that small editorial niggle I enjoyed this a lot. I do think that the last verse is unnecessary and takes away some of the mystery of the piece ("He waits for me there, in the sun" would be a much stronger close, I feel), but the rest is lovely and rich, anchored to the rock-solid image of the man on the bridge in the strange semi-emotional landscape. Thank you for the read. - Jack xxx
