~dearest friend~limerick rake
I hope to never again disappoint with my ink
we've walked this rocky poetic path together
for so long now you have been the voice of reason
you've seen me embracing recovery
also witnessed my slow demise
as I put a drug and alcohol noose around my neck
then kicked the chair beneath me
you've always been straight up with me
told me how it was and I want you to know it's deeply felt
you'll know this is for you
you're my port in the storm
the reason I stay
though I understand you won't watch as I kill myself
i'm away from the party house I wanted you to know
and i'm not going back
doesn't mean I won't take a nip of liquor here and there
my sanity always tentative needs careful balancing
I know i'm strong willed and ugly at times
didn't want to bother you directly
so I wrote this poem of sorts to let you know where i'm at in my head
yesterday was a little bit of a whiskey day
today stone sober
been going through some rough times personally
though aren't we all
just know you're always spoken highly of by me
no matter what the crazies think I put them in their place
when you give me a wee bit of a critique whoopin
I say damn right that's my friend
so tonight i'm listening to the Limerick Rake thinking of you
my oldest and dearest friend here
with the fondest of thoughts
