Why?
What did I not hear
Something I couldn’t see
Pain behind the smile
Disguising misery
Too young to understand
Not old enough to know
the trials of life are real
you didn’t have to go
the hurt is but a moment
caught in your time of life
the pain is only temporary
friends always by your side
death - it is an absolute
something that cannot be undone
I only wish that I had known
You felt you had no one
I don’t know what I could have done
But I would have given it my best
What was playing in your mind
That you’d rather be laid to rest?
An ending much too soon
Now we have the burden to bear
Left to wonder why, over and over
Wishing you were still here
I am sorry I didn’t see
The hurt behind your eyes
I hope the lesson others learn
Keeps your spirit flying high
Friends will gather ‘round
Families say their last goodbyes
It didn’t turn out glamourous
I silence my screams and cry
Young life gone way too soon
Saddens me to my very soul
I guess I will always wonder why

It's always more difficult when reasons aren't understood or seen, and not having the chance to try to change their mind hits the heart hard. I think the only way to come to some sort of acceptance is to hope they found a sense of peace. Really emotional write. Perfectly captures the guilt, hurt and confusion one feels in this type of situation. I feel like this was very honest and I loved the sincerity in your delivery.

It feels like an eternity, even though it is not. Everything is so still so upside down. So raw. I will never understand...people just don't realize suicide is permanent. No coming back. No second chance. No do-over. Hurts me terribly. I will never get over it.The song was absolutely spot on. Thank you for your words and for sharing the song. It really hit home and touched my soul...

I know it hurts, but just know that it was most likely a result of exhaustion, not knowing how to seek a way out of their misery and it seemed to them like their only option. Try to remember that person likely wasn't trying to hurt you or anyone, and that it's also not fair for them to force themselves to exist in constant depression if they've tried their absolute hardest to find happiness and can't. I know that's really really tough to accept and sometimes even understand. I think if you'd've gotten the chance to try to change their perspective you might feel better even if they had taken this outcome because at least you would know you gave your best, and you'd have insight into their decision. Of course you'd still be deeply impacted, just in a slightly different way, I think.
I relate to your sadness on people feeling like they have to take this root, I wish that everyone was able to see the light and walk towards it. In an ideal world every individual would be able to find happiness as easily as the next. I also wish that there wasn't so much shame around suicide so that people could feel comfortable openly discussing their emotions and seeking the help they need. You're welcome for the song, I'm really glad it moved you. It's one of my favs on this subject. I know that some things you don't really get over, you just learn to live with and it sounds like this might be the case with you. It's completely understandable.
