This Road

We have wandered down this road for miles
And it feels like we are still going nowhere.
All I have left to give are endless smiles

And a hand to hold. I have to bear
It all although I want nothing more than
To be embraced and loved. You swear

That this long road will end. The plan
Is something I have to let go of. I do
Not think that you are less of a man

Because you have issues. It is your true
Honesty that I care about. This is not about
If you have a good or bad heart. I wish I knew

More about your past, but that will lead to doubt
And down a road we do not want to go down.
We are fighting this rain and drought

Together. There is no reason to frown
Because we do not have the energy or time
For that. All I want to do is escape this town

With only you. This road is a long climb
Up, but maybe in the end it will be worth
The struggle and all of the grime

We had to endure. Walk to the end of the earth
With me and we will be perfectly safe together.
It does not matter if we face north

Or south or east or west. Tether
To me tightly so the winds do not blow
Us away. We will make it through the weather.
