Short tribute to Elvis whose death I recall reading of in the news (the weather was as hot in England then as it is now). It appeared to launch a crop of singer/actor deaths over the coming 12 months that included (IIRC) Groucho Marx, Maria Callas and Charlie Chaplin.
Yes it was a hot day Was on holiday at the time and remember the papers and the incredible shock on people's faces And yes Charlie Chaplin on Christmas day Remembering the sadness of the most amazing actor on his passing It was a sad year for greatness passing away Bit like this year in some ways
I hadn't heard of Anais Nin then, but I also recall hearing of Byng Crosby's death. I was doing some historical research in the registers at a cemetery office in England when the cemetery supervisor said, "Have you heard Byng Crosby's dead?" He then hastened to add, "You won't find him buried here!"
