Pressure

Pressure turns coal into diamonds
But it doesn't do that for me
All that pressure does
Is turn me to dust
That lights the fire at your feet
I guess I'm more of a candle though,
Burning at both ends
And oh what a light
I give while I fight
But one day I'll lie melted and dead

Pressure turns coal into diamonds
But it doesn't do that for me
All that pressure packed
On me turns me to wax
And as the pain destroys my protection I crack
And light the fire at your feet

Or maybe I'm the sidewalk
Burning the tips of your toes
I'm out in the sun paving the way
For you to move on to a brighter day
But all you do is curse me
For I'm useless in your eyes,
I'm in the way

Pressure turns coal into diamonds
But it doesn't do that for me
You think you're filling the gaps
Left in the cracks
from pressures you don't see
And you think you can fix me
Because you hate the fire at your feet

You think you can turn coal into diamonds
But you can't do that for me
All that your pressure does
Is turn me to rust
And kills the excitement in me
