reality [in the hands of the flickering gods]

we all sit in our homes
with the blinds drawn shut
the unsettled air outside
rattling sashes
trying to break in
the light of our eyes
open to the world
all the bits of information
the endless suffering
and senseless killing
the stunning beauty
and grotesque
faster than we can process
it's all our own creation
the all seeing eye
the prophecies
twinkling in our homes
in our hands
watching over our children
while we sleep
flickering futility
of all powerful gods
an opium religion
of lithium faith
truth and wisdom
twisted and perverted
and as i
your witness
listens to the blinds
flapping against the breeze
i contemplate
how to rid the world
of religion
and wonder if they
will travel back in time
to send another king
to start a new world order
build another empire
and burn all the books
to cleanse us all
of our faith
what are we sacrificing
if we don't flick the switch
and stop believing
will we find a life outside worth living
