the bird is dead
the bird is dead
no more cages
throw the feed out
for the trees never waited
no twig prayed
no flower bared it's bosom
all was
always
no concern
for it was an ornament
a waterfall for your burning eyes
after a hard day's work
the bird is dead
just throw away the cage

I have found myself broken hearted in the past when something ornamental gets broken beyond repair - we can still have feelings for inanimate objects - life is strange indeed :-)

Re: Re. the bird is dead
yes we know the worst kept secret Dave.. you've got a very kind and tender heart behind your witty and sometimes dark/irony soaked gems... yes life is strange indeed! Thanks for getting the sentiment behind the poem.
it is my attempt at both literal and metaphorical keeping of caged birds- birds are not ornaments but some people treat the caged canary/love bird etc as such and they're much better off on a tree that awaits them, the twigs they shake when taking flight and the flowers that open their chest for it to enjoy the nectar and help pollinate them. The other meaning i tried to hide was of those psychopaths who keep/treat their partners as their possession akin to a trophy or an ornamental enhancements to "their" house as "their' beautiful bird forgetting that bird is a LIVING BEING.
Cheers!
