Cruelty

a half smoked cigarette
that you snubbed out
deciding I wasn't your brand

still I desire you
the gravel in your voice
rattles my soul
shakes me to my core

where did you come from?

demon, angel
or something all together different
so unique to anyone
I've ever crossed paths with

your smoky brown eyes mesmerize
of course you would say this is all silly nonsense
that I should concentrate on myself
yet into my dreams your visage comes pounding in

escapism is at the heart of the matter
I'm not happy
you are my distraction
five years now I've danced on your periphery
in that time you've picked me and put me down

you are the tangible in my unsure world
I'm crazy but you always knew that

reach in and touch me in my dark places
feed the fiend in me
pour gasoline on my fire
burn me down to the ground with your ferocity

smoke me with your poetry
then put me out
